Meet the team
Mark Pearson Managing Director
Mark established Pearson Electrical and sister company Humber Rewind, having built up decades of hands-on skill in industrial, marine
and hazardous area electrical engineering.
The companies had a fairly humble start but Mark had an ambitious vision, to grow them into businesses that were seen as leaders in their respective disciplines, with outstanding expertise.
He is also inspired by building a team of dedicated engineers, and safeguarding key skills that are at risk of dying out, particularly in the motor rewinding arena.
Thanks to Mark’s dedication and vision, the company is now enjoying its greatest ever growth, securing major contracts with the RTS Wind wind turbine installation and maintenance company, wind turbine manufacturer Siemens and A2SEA, who operate turbine transportation vessels. Tourist boat operator City Cruises York and trawler manufacturer Parkol Marine Engineering have also recently become clients.
Mark said: “I’m incredibly proud of where we are today, and excited about the prospects we have for the future. It is our amazing team of people who make it possible – and enable us to provide a standard of work and customer support which is second-to-none.”
Lasse Svendsen Approved Electrician
Lasse is seen by the team as our champion problem solver, able to figure out the most complex of wiring installations. From a Danish
seafaring family, he has worked all over the world on ships for over 30 years and electronics is his hobby even when he’s not at work!
“I live and breathe electrics,” said Lasse. “And I’ve always had a talent for being able to visualise a challenge or problem and how to deal with it.
“My family were all fishermen and captains on tugs, so I’ve also lived and breathed boats since I was six.”
He added: “There isn’t really anything that fazes me when it comes to building electronic solutions or engines, and solving electrical problems.”
Lasse also speaks Danish, German and Dutch, and so his language skills come in very handy when helping out on vessels from overseas.
Outside of work, as well as playing with electronics, Lasse is busy refurbishing an ex-pilot vessel and also enjoys zipping around on his motorbike.
Arthur Smith Approved Electrician
Arthur served his apprenticeship as a motor winder before moving into shipping and qualifying as an approved electrician. He
counts motors and ship-based electrics among his main specialisms.
Arthur counts ‘any big job that is successful’ among his outstanding career achievements, and he’s had plenty – including working on the project to refurbish the Hull-based P&O Ferries vessels and install new smoke detection systems.
He said: “I became an electrician by chance really but discovered it’s something I have a flare for.
“What I most enjoy is working in a team environment and working with great characters, and we have both at Pearson Electrical. I like everything about working for Pearson Electrical – it’s the best company I’ve ever worked for.”
He added: “I’d like to think our customers see me as someone who is honest and approachable.”
In his spare time, Arthur enjoys spending time with his family, and particularly going on holiday.
Mel Todd Company Manager
Our company manager Mel has a vast array of industry experience – both as a practising electrician and a senior manager. He joined
Pearson Electrical in 2014, having briefly retired for just four months and discovered he missed the buzz of the job!
He started his career working on trawler electrical systems and has been a testing and commissioning engineer, as well as designing and building control systems for power generation. A career highlight was working in China for two years, overseeing a team of over 50 electricians on the building of a £100 million luxury yacht called Nero.
Mel gets a kick out of the job in general but a number of projects have really stood out for him, including the luxury yacht commission, a major tunnel boring initiative in Denmark, installations on major gas carrier vessels for BP and Shell and working on warship control systems for the MOD.
He said: “I’ve been lucky enough to work on some amazing things, and I’ve learned a lot. What I now really enjoy at Pearson Electrical is the opportunity to bring all of that knowledge together and manage projects end-to-end, from designs to quotes and actually building the systems.
“It’s great to have the opportunity to help shape things and work with customers to bring their visions to life, especially for such an outstanding company and fantastic family team who are committed to being the best in the business.”
When not at work, Mel enjoys cars, golf and going on holiday, and generally enjoying life to the full.
Andy Blexhill Approved Electrician
Andy cut his teeth working in Hull shipyards, building his specialism in marine and heavy industrial electrical engineering, and is a
lynchpin of the team’s shipping-centred electrical expertise.
Specific projects Andy has been involved in since joining us include our Parkol Marine Engineering and City Cruises York contracts.
With over three decades of experience, Andy particularly enjoys the opportunity to share some of his skills with younger members of the team.
“I’ve picked up a fair few tricks of the trade over the years. I personally get a real kick out of knowing what I’m doing and making complex things work, and I enjoy the opportunity I have to give my skills back to others.”
Richard Harrison Approved Electrician
Richard started out as an apprentice in 2002 and has built up extensive experience as a marine and industrial electrician, including
working in Hull’s shipyards.
He joined Pearson Electrical in early 2017, to grasp the opportunity to be part of our unfolding growth story, and expand his knowledge working on our range of exciting new projects.
Among other things, Richard is involved in our electrical installation and maintenance work with Parkol Marine Engineering and City Cruises York.
When he’s not at work, he enjoys playing golf, snowboarding and pool.
Kevin Bragg Labourer
Having retired after 37 years as a nurse specialising in mental health and learning disabilities, Kevin made a complete career
change in 2016 to join Pearson Electrical.
He notched up some outstanding achievements during his prior career, where he worked at various levels, from practising nurse to hospital manager, driven by helping people get the best out of their lives.
Now, he is enjoying the complete change of scene at Pearson Electrical. “It’s great to gain experience of a very different environment and see things from an alternative perspective, while bringing insights from my previous career experience,” he said.
“The work is fascinating and varied and every day brings something new, which is fantastic.”
Kevin helps out with lifting, carrying and fetching both at our workshop and on the vessels and other sites we visit.
When not at work, Kevin is a scuba diving instructor and enjoys fell walking with his dogs in the Lake District – as well as touring Europe on his motorbike.
Marcin Jusko Motor Winder
Marcin is from Poland and secured the equivalent of a joinery and mechanical engineering apprenticeship over there, before
coming to the UK in 2008.
He is also a time served motor rewinder and joined Pearson Electrical in January 2017, to support the expansion of that side of our business. As well as carrying out his own tasks with great skill, he has a pivotal role in passing on this rare skill to other members of our team.
He said: “I enjoy working for Pearson Electrical, it’s a lovely place full of lovely people.
“It’s also nice to be part of a highly respected, growing business, and to have the opportunity to share my particular motor winding skill set with others.”
When he’s not at work, Marcin loves spending time with his wife and two children, and is also a licensed ham (amateur) radio operator.
Karen Lonsdale Office Manager
Karen is one of our main voices on the end of the phone and her job is basically to help keep our team and business operation on the
straight and narrow! She looks after everything from our accounts to ordering parts.
A loyal foot soldier, Karen has been with the company since 2002, and has seen it grow from just Mark working from home with her administrative help – to where it is today.
Prior to joining Pearsons, Karen learned her administrative and Sage accounting systems skills, working in a number of well-known solicitors’ offices in the region.
She said: “I feel very much part of the fabric of Pearson’s really and I’m really proud to have been part of its evolution and what it has achieved.
“There is so much potential ahead of us now, and I’m excited to see what the next 10 years will bring.”
When not at work, Karen enjoys going away for holidays and weekend breaks, keep fit and spending time with her beloved pet dog.
Matthew Clarkson Approved Electrician
Matthew joined Pearson Electrical in 2013 as an apprentice and underwent his training to become an approved electrician.
He specialises in industrial and marine electrical engineering, including the building, installation and maintenance of panels.
He said: “What I love about this job is the fact that every day is different. Being part of a growing company like Pearson Electrical is also very exciting, with the opportunities that brings to expand my knowledge and experience and work on new things.”
Outside of work, Matthew enjoys drumming, snowboarding, supporting the Hull City football team and chilling with friends and family.
Lewis Nicholson Approved Electrician
Lewis is a highly skilled member of our team, with both a HNC in General Engineering and an NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Engineering.
He lists gaining his HNC among his greatest career achievements, and was inspired to become an electrician by following in his granddad’s footsteps.
The electrical project he is proudest of was working on the Arco Avon, a Great Yarmouth-based dredging vessel which required a complex rewire following a fire.
He said: “I love the variety of the job, as we get to be involved with some really amazing vessels, sites and projects – and our working life is never monotonous.
“Pearson Electrical is a great place to work, because of our rapid growth and the amazing new projects we’re able to work on, and the best thing of all is the dedicated and supportive team of people we have here.”
Lewis’s hobbies are playing football and socialising with friends.
Sarah Pearson Office Administrator
Our office administrator and marketing officer Sarah sees it as her mission to keep our team on the straight and narrow!
On leaving school, Sarah completed her NVQ levels 2 and 3 in business administration and decided to take the opportunity to work for her dad Mark, our Managing Director, to help shape the growing company.
Working alongside Karen, it is Sarah’s job to keep the office organised and tidy, making sure members of the team are where they need to be, and when, in order to ensure we continually meet our clients’ needs. She also helps with book keeping.
“I’m proud to be involved with something my dad has built from a fairly small company, to a substantial one with so much potential,” she said.
“It’s great to be part of that evolving story and I particularly enjoy generating ideas for our social media content and marketing initiatives.”
Sarah’s proudest achievement was supporting the project to secure the company’s leading ISO accreditations, collating the necessary documents and ensuring that things remained on track.
When not at work, Sarah loves nothing more than music, and attending concerts and festivals, and socialising with friends and family.
Pearson Electrical is absolutely committed to upholding the highest standards of quality and safety in everything we do. All work is completed to the latest, relevant industry standards, and our business holds the following accreditations:
